Happy New Year, Thanksgiving in Ireland & a New Site Design!
Guess what? Joe and I spent Thanksgiving in Ireland. :-)
It was a relatively short trip, eight days instead of our usual two weeks, but, oh, was it worth it! We already had Thursday and Friday off for the Thanksgiving holiday, so we extended our time out of the office a few days and hopped over to Ireland.
We were a little sneaky–not announcing it on the blog or even on our Facebook page until now. Honestly, I wasn’t sure how much I wanted to share about it. You see, sometimes, I feel like if I know I am going to write about something it changes the way I experience it. So before we left, I decided that I would just be on this trip.
And I actually did it. I felt completely present and loved every minute of it (although to be fair, I love every minute of all our vacations).
But now, I am back and it’s the new year. I am just dying to share all the details with you. Here’s a few highlights:
Belfast: Amazing European Christmas Market. So fun!
Fanad Peninsula and the lighthouse: Second time around, still one of our favorite spots in all of Ireland.
Rosguill Peninsula and Horn Head Peninsulas. Fabulous scenery! Just fabulous. Go. You will not be disappointed.
Causeway Coast: Enough said! It was our first time really exploring Northern Ireland. We can’t wait to go back.
So what about you? Do you have a trip to Ireland planned for 2016? The Irish Fireside has a great list about destinations to watch for 2016 (including a suggestion from your’s truly!). I am pretty sure it’s going to be another record year for travel in Ireland.
We’re still deciding our travel plans (I am hoping Ireland will be in the mix!). In the meantime, Joe and I spent the weekend working on a brand new site design. What do you think? I’m in love with it. :-)
I’ve been itching for a new look for a while now. The old design was a little dated and this one is so light and bright and easy to navigate. Perfect for the new year, don’t you think?

Yes! We have our trip planned for the end of March/beginning of April. We are so excited! We’ve booked all the places we are staying, and the car. Now we are working on deciding what to see and do, places to eat, that sort of thing. Learning about the Leap card, Heritage Card, Heritage Island card, so many options! Combing the Internet for helpful suggestions and information.
Ohhh March is not that far away at all! Good luck on planning–I am sure it will all be worth it. You’ll have a great time Edie!
Glad to hear you had a good time, Stephanie. Were you able to find a turkey dinner? :)
Love the new look btw.
Thanks Liam! We really did have a great time. No turkey–but we did manage to have a wonderful duck dinner in Ballycastle, so I will call it a win!
We are going in just over two months! Unfortunately Northern Ireland is not in our plans but we are heading over to the Southwest from Dublin and kind of making a loop back. Do you rent or bring a GPS unit, or just rely on good road maps like the ones you have recommended on your site? Would you recommend for a first time traveler to use GPS? I am trying to decide if the 10 euro/day GPS rental is necessary or if we will be able to navigate the roads on our own :)
Hi Kristen,
We actually don’t bring a GPS–but that’s primarily because we started going to Ireland before GPS’s were widely available. So we just got used to not having it. However for first time visitor’s I always suggest a one-two-punch (GPS, Map and all eyes in car on signs!). I hope this helps. :-)
Yes, thank you! I guess it can’t hurt to have back up either ways!
